Derek Jackson won the over-all SANJL Championship Series. He easily defeated his competition by sailing well in all conditions. His final total of 13 points after throw-outs, came from an incredible 11 first place finishes and one second place finish. This is quite an impressive achievement considering the nature of lake sailing. Derek is an extremely popular SANJL sailor. He is highly regarded for his knowledge, skill, sportsmanship and leadership.

Sue Mallows ran away with the Challenger Division Trophy. She beat the second place boat by a whopping 64 points. Sue has improved her sailing considerably this season. She was actually the 6th place finished over-all if the series was scored as one fleet!

The most improved sailor by percentage, was Nathan Altomore. He is a junior sailor from HSC. He has been moving up the fleets quickly. He and the other juniors from HSC, will the ones to beat in the near future.

It was a great season. We had strong turnouts at the regattas. SANJL was also well represented at the World Championships with 12 SANJL regulars in attendance.

Lucy and Simon Bertocci dominated the youth championships this year. Lucy won the junior division and Simon won the midget division. Sixteen sailors competed in the 3 regatta series. There were a wide range of conditions. The final day at Smoke Rise was very windy with only 3 boats able to complete the course. Simon, Lucy and Alec Manson showed great boat handling skills in heavy winds.

Simon and Lucy, along with Nathan Altomore, also attended the Junior North American Championships on Long Island. Simon won the midget division. Next year with the NAs close by in Erie, PA, we hope to get a big group of SANJL sailors to participate.
