1. RULES

1.1. The regatta will be governed by the 'rules' as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2. Rules of the International Sunfish Class Association (ISCA) will apply.

2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

2.1. Any notices to competitors will be posted at the registration table.

3. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

3.1. Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 10:00 AM on the day it will take effect.

4. SCHEDULE OF RACES

4.1. Racing is scheduled on these dates:

May 27, 2024 Spruce Run
September 14, 2024 Swartswood Lake
September 28, 2024 Venue TBD

4.2. A maximum of 16 races shall be sailed in the series. A maximum of 4 races shall be sailed on any individual race day.

4.3. The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race each day is 10:27 AM

4.4. The warning signal for each succeeding race will be made as soon as practicable.

4.5. On any race day, no warning signal will be made after 4:00 PM

5. THE COURSES

5.1. Courses are to be determined by the Race Committee and will be provided at the skipper's meeting on each race day.

6. MARKS

6.1. Descriptions of the racing marks will be provided by the Race Committee at the skipper's meeting each race day.

7. THE START

7.1. Appendix S – Sound-Signal Starting System will be used, except the sound-signals to be given are listed as follows:

This changes rule 26

7.2. A boat starting later than 4 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start. This changes rule A4.

7.3. In the event of a general recall, rule 30.1 (Round-an-End rule) will be in effect for the next start. Except that code flag "I" need not be displayed by the Race Committee. This changes rule 30.1

8. CHANGE OF THE NEXT LEG OF THE COURSE

8.1. To change the position of the next mark, the race committee will move the original mark (or the finishing line) to a new position. The change will be signaled before the leading boat has begun the leg, although the mark may not yet be in the new position.

9. THE FINISH

9.1. The finishing line description will be provided by the race committee at the skipper's meeting on each race day.

10. TIME LIMITS

10.1. There is no time limit for the first place boat, however, boats failing to finish within 45 minutes after the first boat sails the course and finishes, will be scored Did Not Finish. This changes rules 35 and A4.1.

11. PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS

11.1. The protest time limit is 45 minutes after the last boat has finished the last race of the day. The same protest time limit applies to all protests by the race committee and to requests for redress. This changes rules 61.3 and 62.2.

11.2. Protests shall be delivered to the race committee in writing within the protest time limit.

11.3. Hearings will be held as soon as possible after the protest is filed.

11.4. Notices of protests by the race committee will be posted to inform boats under rule 61.1(b).

11.5. The protest committee shall be comprised of the top 3 finishing boats in the last race of the day. If any or all of these boats stand to benefit from the outcome of the protest, or were witness to the incident, or were directly involved in the incident, they shall be excused and their position on the protest committee will be filled by the next highest finishing boat.

12. SCORING

12.1. The Low Point scoring system of Appendix A will apply.

12.2. 10 races are required to be completed to constitute the overall series. 1 race is required to constitute an individual race day.

12.3. Any competitor serving on the RC will receive participation credit for that day applied towards the season's overall scoring. For each race sailed while part of the RC, the competitor's points are equal to the average of her points in all races started in the series (except the races in question). These races can be applied to the participation requirements necessary in rules 15.4(d) and 15.4(e). A competitor's credit is limited to four races per SANJL season.

12.4. Excluded Scores:

(a) For the series a boat's score will be the total of her scores excluding her 4 worst scores.

(b) For individual race days there will be no throw outs.

13. SAFETY REGULATIONS

13.1. A boat that intends to race shall check in with the race committee on the water before the warning signal of that boat's first race.

13.2. A boat that retires from a race shall notify the Race Committee as soon as possible.

14. REPLACEMENT OF EQUIPMENT

14.1. Equipment may be substituted or replaced without Race Committee approval as long as the competitor's sail number remains unchanged. This changes ISCA rule 4.1.

15. PRIZES

15.1. Awards shall be presented in both a Championship and Challenger division.

15.2. Division Placement

(a) A skipper will declare membership in the Championship or Challenger division when registering.

(b) Once a competitor has started a race as a member of the Championship division they may not move to the Challenger division until the start of the following series year.

(c) A competitor may elect to move to the Championship division. The change will take effect at the start of the next race day and will apply to the series scoring. Daily awards will not change retroactively.

(d) Standings shall be calculated using scores against all boats regardless of fleet divisions.

15.3. Race Day Prizes

(a) At the conclusion of SANJL individual race days, awards will be presented to the top finishers in both the Championship and Challenger divisions. Rules requiring competitors to be members of the ISCA class association will not apply in determining these prizes.

15.4. Series Prizes

(a) At the conclusion of the 2024 SANJL series, prizes will be presented to the top placing boats in both the Championship and Challenger divisions.

(b) The Randall DeLeeuw trophy will be awarded to the Championship division winner.

(c) The Jeff Smith trophy will be awarded to the Challenger division winner.

(e) A boat must participate in at least 2 SANJL regattas in 2024 to qualify for series prizes.

(f) Competitors must be current members of the ISCA by the conclusion of series day 4 to receive series prizes.

16. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

16.1. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
